Things to Do in Asheville
An ultra-liberal enclave in the Southeast US, Asheville is known for its art galleries, breweries, and proximity to great hiking. You can also catch some great live music.
Breweries
Wicked Weed Brewing Co. had a great beer selection and very tasty food! Vegetarian + vegan friendly.
Grab some Ginger's Revenge ginger beer when you are in Asheville! You can visit their brewery or find it at lots of different spots, and it's the best ginger beer I've ever had. They have flavored ginger beers too, and my favorite is the Lime Agave!
Outdoor music
A concert at Salvage Station
While in Asheville, we were fortunate enough to attend TWO outdoor shows at Salvage Station, and we had an incredible time! A food truck on-site is open during shows, and offers a rotating menu with solid options for those with dietary restrictions. Tickets run about $20 for most shows, with some late afternoon shows being about $7. Some shows do sell out, so reserve early if you can.
Art galleries
Art at Greenwood Gallery in Grovewood Village by the Omni
Downtown Asheville has tons of art galleries! Go visit - it's free! On Biltmore Avenue, practically every other store front is a gallery, so that's a great place to start.
Grovewood Gallery, located in Grovewood Village right next to the Omni Hotel, is worth a stop. I wound up chatting with the staff, and they were not only knowledgable about the art in the gallery, but also recommended some of the hikes listed above!
Parks
French Broad River Greenway
This lovely path along the French Broad River is perfect for dog walks, a jog, a stroll, or a bike ride. At times it's paved and at other's it's dirt, as it winds through several adjacent parks along the river. If you're on vacation without your furry friend, you will probably appreciate that it runs past a dog park.
Carrier Park
I asked the barista at Summit Coffee Co where he'd go to read a book in a park, and he recommended Carrier Park. A haunt visited mostly by locals, it was the perfect is a great spot to post up with a book in the sun (or under a shady tree) or have a picnic. The aforementioned French Broad River Greenway passes through Carrier Park.
