Getting Around Quito
Quito is large, and some of the districts you’ll want to visit are quite far apart. You will need to get around by vehicle.
Cabs
Taxis are prevalent and easy to hail. However, there are some pretty terrifying stories, so it’s best to:
Order an official taxi through the EasyTaxi / Cabify app
Order a Cabify cab through the same
Have your hotel call you a cab
Get an Uber (in a legal gray zone in Ecuador)
Buses apparently work pretty well and are dirt cheap, but they’re prime spots to have your stuff stolen; the advice we’ve read is don’t even think of using the overhead bins or falling asleep. We did not attempt the bus.
Don’t rent a car to get around Quito. As with any major city other than perhaps LA, cars are a hindrance rather than a help.
